Why I Love Toronto
John Fluevog Shoes (The Distillery District)
The Distillery District is a very trendy fashion, food and art district in the city with boutiques, cafes and galleries. The best part about these establishments is that they make great use of the old Victorian buildings in the area. One of my favourite examples is the district’s newest store John Fluevog Shoes.
The store is beautiful with its exposed brick and ventilation pipes. However, my favourite part of the building has to be this wall at the back of the store that is absolutely stunning. I don’t know what it could be, but when I saw it my imagination ran wild trying to figure out what relation it had to the old distillery. The arch at the bottom left reminds me of a fireplace or some kind of oven, none the less the wall is a great piece of heritage. The other thing I love is the stores open concept design. I like to think that the shoes are there to compliment the building, which is why the displays and feel of the store is very minimalistic.
I must admit that when I first went into the building I was attracted by the architecture. Alas, being a fashion guru I also noticed the shoes and bags that were as unique as the building. For those of you who do not know the brand, John Fluevog is a Vancouver based company that was established in the 1970’s. It opened its first Toronto store on Queen Street in 1989. The company is known for its unique shoes that will truly make your feet stand out. Unique shoes in a unique building is something you can only find in the Distillery District .
