Why I Love Toronto
The Bay Hudson’s Bay
Exciting things are on the horizon for The Bay – I mean Hudson’s Bay – and a name change is one of them. Known as The Bay for as long as I can remember, Canada’s historical retailer, and a main reason why we are a country, is now called Hudson’s Bay showing that the company is ready to move into the future while maintaining their past. Now many of you may be thinking “Hey, but it’s always been The Hudson’s Bay Company,” and in a way it has, but The Bay, Zellers and Home Outfitters are/ were just brands of The Hudson’s Bay Company. The name change has yet to be seen on stores across Canada, but if you go on the website www.thebay.com, which will probably remain the same because people are so accustomed to that URL, you will notice that the yellow lettering at the top of the page has been replaced with sleek Hudson’s Bay. Furthermore, the logo of The Bay will now reflect the original corporate coat of arms.
In other exciting Hudson’s Bay news (this is going to be a tough name change for me), the company has announced Kleinfeld’s Bridal – from Say Yes To The Dress – is coming to the Hudson’s Bay Queen Street location in 2014. This move is excellent for Hudson’s Bay as it is the number one destination for wedding registries. In fact out of the five weddings I’ve gone to in the past three years, four of them were registered with Hudson’s Bay. A statistic by the Globe and Mail even says that 80% of Canadians rank Hudson’s Bay top of mind when it comes to wedding registry.
On a bigger scale Hudson’s Bay is not really a reason Why I Love Toronto, but a reason Why I Love Canada. Like I said it is an important reason why we are a country and the HBC stripes have become so iconic to this country that wearing them can be considered a patriotic gesture. In terms of why it has made my Why I Love Toronto list - well take a look at the three posts below for Throwback Thursday.
