Why I Love Toronto Reason #214
Now I am a huge One Direction fan – and before you tell me – yes I know I’m not a 14 year old girl, but come on how can you not love them! There songs What Makes You Beautiful and One Thing are awesome! They are so catchy! Plus Niall is my favorite because he always has that confused face and he’s Irish and I think Irish people are really cool!
Anyways this summer they are having a concert at the Molson Amphitheatre which is one of my favorite concert venues especially if it is a beautiful summer day outside. Now the reason I am doing this post is 1) because I was listening to One Direction on my study break and 2) a colleague of mine wants to see Bryan Adams in concert and said she wished it was at the Molson Amphitheatre – now the fact she wanted it there wasn’t why it reminded me, but he was actually the first performer ever at the concert venue. Now my first concert there was to see the Black Eyed Peas with Rihanna and Swollen Members.
Let’s get into some history!! This venue is on the now abandoned Ontario Place land, but is one of two venues that will continue to operate on the land. Originally on the site was something called the Forum which has a vinyl canopy until 1978 when the roof became copper. Apparently it also had a revolving stage? Now during the winter of 1994/1995 the Forum was demolished for the Molson Amphitheatre. This was considered to be one of the most controversial decisions made. However, the new structure would hold 2x the original capacity.
The Molson Amphitheatre seats up 16,000 as well as grass space where you can bring a blanket and sit on the grass under the stars while watching the concert (just make sure it doesn’t rain.). When it opened RPM magazine named it the Best New Concert Venue! Now since it’s an amphitheatre part of it is outside meaning the concert venue is only used seasonally from May to September. The one thing I remember from my experience there was that they had the names of all the artists who have performed there on panel going to the side.
Now this is great theatre and not because I love amphi style theatres! But you can sit under the stars, enjoy the fresh air, not get to hot like at some venues, feel the breeze of the water while rocking out to Bryan Adams, Robyn, One Direction or the Black Eyed Peas
That Is Why I Love Toronto.
