Why I Love Toronto At Christmas Reason #113
Skating at Nathan Phillips Square
I once went on a date at this Ice Rink, it didn’t work out because I had asked the person out when we were both majorly intoxicated and it turns out we are both very good actors while drunk and did not act the way we semi remembered on our date, but regardless of my failed date we went to the most romantic place I knew of at Christmas time - the skating rink at Nathan Phillips Square. The Christmas tree glimmers, there are lights stringed above, with lit up snowflakes that dangle above your head etc. It is just a colourful display of lights and it is such a romantic moment. Now even thought my date didn’t work out, there were plenty of people there who were making out, holding hands and laughing at their significant others jokes.
The rink is opened every year during the Cavalcade of Lights and lasts usually until the end of February or longer depending on the whether (but since this December has been so mild I have a feeling it will be cold well into April). Also you can enjoy the new skate rental, change room and washrooms at the skating rink which was being renovated all this year.
What I did not know about the rink is that the arches you skate under are called freedom arches because it is believed that “only in freedom can the human spirit soar.
